Principal's Note:

Dear MDES Families,

As we look at the calendar, I am thrilled to share that Monday, February 9th marks our 100th day of school! This milestone is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the growth we have observed across our classrooms. From our youngest learners mastering new foundational skills to our middle schoolers engaging in complex civil discourse and higher-order thinking, the first 100 days have been a testament to the hard work of our students and staff.

Looking ahead to the remaining 75 school days, our focus remains on providing rich and meaningful learning experiences. We are committed to fostering an environment where every student feels safe, seen, heard, and intellectually challenged. Our goal is to continue moving students toward increasing levels of independence while ensuring they have the tools to take ownership of their own learning journey.

Important Dates & Reminders

Friday, February 13th: This is an Early Release Day. Dismissal for all students will be at 12:30 PM.

February 16th – 19th: School will be closed for February Vacation. We hope this time allows our students and staff to rest and recharge for the next stretch of the school year.

Attendance and Travel Plans

Consistent attendance is vital for student success, though we understand that family needs arise. Please remember that student absences for reasons other than illness, medical appointments, religious observances, or family emergencies must be approved prior to the absence.

If you have upcoming travel plans, please communicate these to the main office in advance. Planned absences must be communicated in advance in order to be considered for approval. Chronic absenteeism is the primary factor considered when determining whether to approve a planned absence.

We are so proud of what we have accomplished together so far this year. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in making MDES a community where every child thrives.

Thank you,

Heather Dorr, M.Ed.

Dear MDES Families,

We are in the thick of winter and the weather can be unpredictable. Make sure your students come to school with layers, a warm coat, gloves, and footwear that is appropriate for walking outside. Middle school students may need a reminder to bring a coat and shoes to stay warm when going outside - socks with sandals are not enough this time of year. Check in with your children and make sure they're coming to school prepared for the weather.

As always, reach out to me if I can help provide your student with winter gear.

Thanks,

Nurse Ashley

Library News

Dear parents, it has come to our attention that the use of the Roblox game platform on the library’s public computers is against our computer use policy, which precludes patrons from installing software on public devices. Because of this, we have taken steps to block access to roblox.com in the library, effective Monday, February 9th. We know Roblox is popular amongst students, and so wanted to offer advance notice of the change here.
