MDI 4th/5th Grade Show Choir Wins Gold! |
Congratulations to the students in the MDI 4th and 5th Grade Show Choir for their GOLD award at the MMEA State Show Choir Festival this weekend! Students from MDES, Pemetic and Tremont schools combined to perform The Lion King and earned one of only two golds awarded in the Middle School Show Choir division. Judges commented on the outstanding harmonies, and highlighted the sophistication of the singing, choreography and overall presentation. We are also proud to congratulate MDES student, Isla Merchant, who earned one of four Outstanding Musicianship awards for her solo work in the production. For more information about next year's combined show choir, contact your school's music teacher!

6th Grade Community Service |
Sixth graders recently visited the food pantry in Bar Harbor, where they learned about food insecurity, the pantry's mission, and spent some time volunteering. They unpacked delivery boxes of produce and vegetables, sorted dried goods, bread, and pastries, and cleaned and organized shelves. |
8th Grade Community Service |
The 8th grade class traveled to Loaves and Fishes Food Panty in Ellsworth on Wednesday to volunteer. They were tasked with greeting customers, stocking shelves, bagging groceries, making and packaging meals for customers to take home. Our 8th grade students made a very positive impression and have been invited back! |

Chorus Challenge Champions!! |
Dear MDES Families,
We are in the thick of winter and the weather can be unpredictable. Make sure your students come to school with layers, a warm coat, gloves, and footwear that is appropriate for walking outside.
Middle school students may need a reminder to bring a coat and shoes to stay warm when going outside - socks with sandals are not enough this time of year.
Check in with your children and make sure they're coming to school prepared for the weather.
As always, reach out to me if I can help provide your student with winter gear.
Thanks,
Nurse Ashley

Growing Gardens, Growing Minds: MDES School Garden Project
|
This week the sun was shining on a chilly spring Monday afternoon as the kindergarteners hunted for their spring baskets full of goodies on the school patio. The children planted wheat seeds into wicker baskets and watched the seeds grow over the last few weeks. The kindergarteners also felted wool into sweet chicks and eggs to rest in their basket full of green grass.
We celebrate spring!
