It is very important to let the office know if your child(ren) will be absent/tardy from school.
You can e-mail Miranda at Miranda.clough at mdirss.org, or by calling 207-276-3348, ext. 1. This goes for after school plans as well. We understand plans change unexpectedly. If possible, please let the office know before 1 pm of any changes in after school plans. Teachers do not always get to their e-mails before the end of the day. Please continue to e-mail their teachers but add Miranda to the e-mail as well. IF your student is traveling somewhere other than home on the bus, please send a bus note! Thank you!

7th and 8th Grade Speech Unit
The 7th and 8th graders have spent the last few weeks working on a speech writing unit. This year's topic was "An Interesting Landmark". Students worked on research and persuasive writing skills as well as public speaking skills. All students presented to their classes. At MDES, school finalists are chosen from the 8th grade. All students did an amazing job and should be very proud of their work!
On Tuesday, March 11th, grades 4-8 gathered in the forum to hear seven 8th grade finalists present their speeches. Presenters were Odin Berwin, Harry Schwartz, Lilly Hall, Nahia Marcial, Avery Norwood, Ruthie Butler, and Juniper Macko. All seven students delivered fabulous speeches, but in the end, only 2 can go forward to the district competition. The judges named Ruthie Butler as the first place winner, with second place going to Juniper Macko. Nahia Marcial is the alternate and will present if either our 1st or 2nd place finalists are unable. The District Speech Contest with finalists from all the AOS schools will be held at Camp Beech Cliff on Tuesday, March 18th at 4PM. The Snow Date for this event is Wednesday, March 19th at 4PM.
